The 22nd Orthopedic Academic Conference of the Chinese Medical Association and the 15th COA Academic Conference were convened in Xi’an.

From November 22 to 26, the 22nd Orthopedic Academic Conference of the Chinese Medical Association and the 15th COA Academic Conference were convened in Xi’an. The Chinese Medical Association (CMA) and its Orthopaedic Branch hosted the Conference, which was organized by the Shaanxi Medical Association and the Second Affiliated Hospital of Xi’an Jiaotong University, with assistance from the Third Hospital of Hebei Medical University. This conference was themed on collaboratively exploring the path of innovation and translational development in Chinese orthopedics, aiming to initiate a new chapter of high-quality development in orthopedics.

The COA conference has evolved into a prestigious orthopedic academic event with distinctive Chinese characteristics and immense influence. The growth and expansion of the Orthopedic Branch of CMA are inseparable from the selfless contributions of generations of Chinese orthopedic pioneers and the concerted efforts of numerous orthopedic practitioners. The trend towards intelligence and minimal invasiveness represents the future direction of medicine, while big data and AI technologies serve as a powerful driving force propelling its ongoing development. In 2023, the COA conference, themed “Innovation and Translation,” underscores not only the significance of innovation but also the imperative emphasis on translation, leveraging the platform of the COA conference to sustainably host exhibitions showcasing innovative achievements.

The COA conference successfully hosted the Exhibition of Chinese Orthopedic Innovation and Translation Achievements, prominently showcasing the independent innovations of Chinese orthopedic surgeons. This event ignited awareness of innovation and translation among the youth, introduced new treatment means and perspectives for orthopedic practitioners, and played a positive role in advancing the development of orthopedic medicine.

Nurturing young talents to solidify the foundation of orthopaedics and traumatology. The conference hosted a young and middle-aged physician essay contest, an orthopedic foundation young scholar competition, and an orthopedic innovation and translation competition, all aimed at inspiring greater participation from younger generations in research and innovation regarding the orthopedic field, thereby injecting fresh momentum into the development of orthopedics.

This conference attracted 19,000 domestic and foreign participants, with one main venue and 40 branch venues. The conference received a total of 28,000 submissions, featured 346 invited speakers, accommodated 2,582 oral presentations, and hosted 74 face-to-face poster sessions.
